Hey you guys~
I missed you.
So I got back from Sac-Anime on Monday.
WOW. IT WAS AN AMAZING TIME.
So allow me to explain why it was such an amazing time: I got to work for
all weekend long. O_O It was awesome.
So allow me to tell you about my awesome time being a roadie for Eyeshine: which is Johnny Yong Bosch's band.
So about a week before the convention, I messaged Eyeshine on Facebook, and explained to them that if they needed any help at Sac-Anime, that I was totally down. All that I got for a response was "Cool! Thanks!" and I thought that that was the end of it.
So on Friday morning, my mom came and picked me up and we left for Sac-Anime together, and I got a message from Eyeshine on Facebook: "Hey, can we get your cell phone number?" I was like "Uh...okay, here." And gave them my number. About ten minutes later, I got a text from Ginny (the bassist from Eyeshine). She was asking me what time I was going to be at the convention. When I told her where I was coming from, she replied, "What a funny coincidence, I lived about a half an hour away form there!" So I promised her that I would text again when I was in the Sacramento area.
About 2 hours later, I texted Ginny and told her where I was and how far I was from the convention center. I got a text from her saying "Here's Maurice's number, can you text him? He can tell you where to go.
" I fangirled, because Maurice is the drummer from Eyeshine and he's AMAZING. So when we checked into our hotel room and I met my awesome roommate, I texted Maurice. Less than 30 seconds later, I got a text back. "Did you already pick up your badge for the con? Let's have you meet us at our Q&A at 2." So I went to the registration and picked up my mom's badge, and then we went to the Q&A. I was so nervous to meet them. Once they saw me, they waved me over. "Okay, so we're gonna do the panel, and then you can come with us and we can walk you to the vendor's hall. You're okay with working a lot, right?" I said yes, but that I had a panel at 5:30.
Man, working for them was CRAZY. At first, they had me in the vendor's hall by myself, which is where I met the blue, red, and green rangers from Power Rangers Samurai. I didn't realize that it was them. They stopped at the table and just looked at stuff, and then went to their table. O_O It was so cool. But after my panel, they had me meet at the main events building to help set up for their concert. I worked with three other people: Ashley (who is a full-time Eyeshine Roadie and has been for like 4 years), Jonathan (her "friend"), and Mirena (her friend). But at the concert on Friday, it was just Ashley and myself. It was a bit overwhelming, but I got to be front and center for their concert both nights, and I got to help with sound and stuff. SO COOL. Then we sold stuff until about an hour after the concert.
So after the concert on Friday night, Johnny was complaining that he wanted to go and get food, and one of the Sac-Anime staff said that she knew a great sushi place like 5 minutes away from the hotel called Mikuni's. So they started leaving, and I started going back to my hotel room. But then Johnny stopped me "Are you coming?". I felt bad, but I went. Instantly stopped regretting it. We all walked to the restaurant together, and Polo and Maurice were messing around with everyone the entire way there.
Them out of convention and panels and stuff is DEFINITELY something you have to get used to. They act like normal people. O_O
So we got to the restaurant, and Johnny, Maurice, Ginny, and Charles Martinez (the voice of Mario) all went into the restaurant to get a drink, and since I'm not 21, I had to wait outside with everyone else. BUMMER.
And they had already started teasing me about my age. It was like a 15 minute wait for dinner, and then we got in.
Dinner with Eyeshine was HILARIOUS. If someone wanted something that you ordered, they would just reach over and take it. Something to get used to. And we all kept laughing. Especially them laughing at me, since I had never had sushi before. (Note to self: never have sushi again. EVER. =_
Johnny kept stealing my food.
It was super funny. But I had the opportunity to talk to them about myself, and they told me a bunch of random things. Then they were asked by restaurant staff to sign a plate that they would hang up in the restaurant somewhere. O_O It was cool. And they asked me to draw a mushroom on the plate.
I felt super cool.
So after dinner, we all walked to their hotel, and Johnny went to bed, telling Maurice, Polo, and Ginny that they had to leave for the news station at 7am. But we all went into Maurice, Polo, and Ginny's room and hung out. Ginny wrote a violin part for the song that they were performing on the news in the morning, and Polo checked his Facebook. Maurice was contemplating walking back with Ashley, Mirena and I to their hotel room and watching a movie or something with us, but decided that they needed sleep. So we went back to our hotel. That's the end of Friday.
